Minimum Requirements:
Education Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, or related field, required.
Certifications/Licenses Required:
- Professional Registration as an FPE or PE with Fire Protection Basis required, licensed in at least one state with ability to be licensed in most other states.
- CFPS and other certifications preferred or as deemed necessary by EVP.
Experience Required: Minimum of 5 years of engineering, consulting, and/or design operations related to core business.
Competencies (Trade/Profession) Full knowledge of engineering / consulting / design requirements for company operations.
Strong working knowledge of building and fire codes and NFPA standards.
Strong understanding of fire sprinkler systems, fire alarm systems, fire pump systems.
Software / Tools Required: Microsoft Office Suite, engineering/ design tools.
Analytical/Interpersonal Skills Excellent written and verbal communication skills, demonstrated ability to adhere to engineering and design standards.
Ability to stay ahead of the curve on product development, changing standards, and customer expectations with respect to core company offerings.
Ability to work within tight project timeframes and communicate effectively with customers.
Summary:
Reporting to the Executive Vice President of Engineering, an Fire Protection Engineer is a primary contact for customer interaction work, is to complete milestones and tasks as set by the supervisor and/or project manager for work, and executes all fire and life safety work, related reports, and other products in line with company quality and safety standards.
Additionally, where agreed to in advance, this position may be responsible for management or mentoring of other consultants. This position will be responsible to discuss any needed training or certifications with one’s supervisor, and ensure all are on track and in process or in effect as needed to complete work within AHJ, customer, and/or company standards. Work Product, Tasks and Activities (Include but are not limited to the following.)
Daily:
Coordinate with in house project manager/project management team to review workload.
Ensure committed work dates are achieved.
Schedule site visits, surveys, flow tests, site inspections, and other work as required.
Schedule upcoming travel in accordance with company or customer standards.
Travel as needed to work on project sites, complete work during travel as appropriate.
Complete all required expense reporting for previous week’s travel, or business related expenditures.
Complete assigned site, project, report, and review work as needed.
Submit work as needed for peer review, revise as needed to meet customer dates, deliver work to the assigned point, in house or customer direct. Weekly:
Review all projects worked on for the week on the project list, send updates as needed to project manager where inaccuracies exist.
Complete all required time entry for payroll and customer billing and submit to supervisor/project manager for review/approval and processing.
Attend weekly project status meetings with consultant team, either virtually, or face-to-face.
Monthly:
Provide training and mentoring for fellow team members as assigned.
Complete required tasks for personal and professional development, study and prepare for exams as needed to meet qualification and certifications required.
Quarterly:
Meet with supervisor to discus work related issues and performance for quarter and track progress of annual goal completion.
Annually:
Attend all-hands, face-to-face, team meeting for consulting group.
Meet with supervisor to complete annual performance evaluation and establish goals for coming year.
Maintain all professional licensing and education requirements needed to maintain licensing.
