About the Opportunity
We are currently seeking a Shop Assistant / Fire Extinguisher Hydrostatic Testing Technician for our Baltimore, MD office location. This position will assist our Technicians properly stock their vehicles, will keep track of inventory, test and inspect fire extinguishers, and assist with customer pick-ups.
Compensation
- Negotiable - Depends on Experience
- Eligible for quarterly profit-sharing bonus
Job Duties
- Perform low pressure hydro testing on cylinders with rating of below 1000psi
- Perform high pressure hydro testing on cylinders with rating of above 1000psi
- Dry extinguisher cylinders after testing
- Inspect the interior of the cylinder before and after testing for corrosion or remaining moisture
- Record and keep track of cylinder serial numbers, size, test/service pressure, and customer
- Ensure fire extinguisher is prepped and ready for acceptance of dry chemical prior to filling
- Fill extinguisher with dry chemical to appropriate pressure
- Maintain service record of cylinder recharge
- Prepare extinguishers for testing, emptying chemical and disassembling valve
- Inspect dry chemicals for moisture or contamination
- Inspect extinguisher cylinders for corrosion
- Replace mechanical parts and "O" rings in valve and re-assemble valve
- Perform maintenance on extinguisher in accordance with NFPA guidelines
- Communicate with extinguisher technicians regarding completed tests.
- Ensure that Shop area is clean and well organized
- Assist in receiving and recordkeeping of new extinguisher stock
- Assist in the performance of general vehicle cleaning and maintenance when needed
- Assist with inventory control when needed
- Perform general facility and grounds maintenance as directed by supervisor.
- Ensure that Hydrotest, CO2, and Clean Agent Recovery systems are serviced and manufacturer recommendations maintained properly
- Offer excellent service to walk-in customers, selling extinguishers and service as needed
- Explain repair and service work to customers when needed
Qualifications
- Clean driving record
- Able to attain extinguisher service license in Baltimore City.
- Able to attain certification for hydrotesting
- Customer oriented interpersonal skills
- Possess average written and verbal communication skills
- Possess strong organizational skills
- Able to exercise effective time management skills (prioritize, multi-tasking, and work
- Able to understand and interpret industry codes and standards.
- Familiar with NFPA and DOT guidelines as they pertain to extinguisher and cylinders testing and servicing
- Familiar with high-pressure hydrostatic testing equipment, test jackets, valving equipment, and cylinder dryer (not required but encouraged)
- Maintain ability to meet DOT approval requirements without exclusions (with training)
- Able to safely and effectively use general hand tools and power tools
- Valid General driver's license with a good driving record
