Facilities Management seeks a Fire Systems Assistant Supervisor to supervise and coordinate the repair and maintenance of fire alarms, sprinklers, and other related systems.

Supervise work activities of subordinates. Assign and inspect the work of Fire Alarm Technicians and initiate corrective measures to meet established standards. Plan, develop, assign, and adjust work methods and procedures to meet schedules. Inspects work in progress to insure its completion within allotted time limits and to meet established standards. Train employees in new methods or procedures. Maintain records and files. Prepare estimates of proposed job costs for system installation to ensure the most effective utilization of personnel and equipment. May plan the layout of new or remodeled alarm systems. Review and analyze blueprints, schematics, and drawings of fire alarm, sprinkler, and other related electrical systems to ensure compatibility with existing fire systems, compliance with electrical/fire codes and maintenance standards. Perform preventative maintenance and inspection of fire alarm components, systems, and related equipment which includes: starting/stopping equipment, system testing, general cleaning, removing/installing serviceable parts, identifying problems and needed repairs. May examine, test, troubleshoot, and diagnose necessary repairs to alarms, sensors, system wiring, alarm communication network, fire/emergency system devices, and computerized alarm monitoring systems. May maintain as needed fire alarm system components (e.g. panels, audible/visual alarms, pull stations, detectors, etc.) for the purpose of providing enhanced and/or upgraded system capabilities. Select and requisition materials and repair/replacement parts. Coordinate with suppliers, contractors, engineers and others concerning equipment operations or maintenance. Assist in preparation of capital and operations budgets. Create various reports that are used to document the operation of Fire Alarm Systems. Communicate with other trades (e.g. plumbing, electrical) to complete projects/work orders. Review the work of outside contractors (e.g. new school sites, fire system upgrades/expansions, major remodels, etc.) to ensure projects are completed and are within local/state/federal codes, regulations, and specifications. Work with ASU Fire Marshall to ensure completion of inspections. Respond to emergency situations during and after hours for the purpose of assisting emergency responders and to resolve immediate safety concerns.
DAYS AND SCHEDULE: Monday through Friday, 6:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
Eight years of progressively responsible electrical repair and maintenance experience which includes one year of lead experience; OR, Completion of a four-year federally approved technical training program in electrical repair and maintenance AND four years of electrical repair and maintenance experience which includes one year of lead experience; OR,Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved. Must possess a valid Arizona driver's license (minimum of Class D) upon employment and maintain throughout employment. Post-offer of employment, selected candidate must possess an acceptable driving record which is 5 or fewer points in the most recent 39 month period from date of hire.
- Two year’s supervisory experience.
- Evidence of NICET level II or higher Fire Alarm Systems Certification.
- Experience working with and maintaining fire and security alarm systems, computer hardware, and software programs.
- Experience in programming fire alarm systems and computer networking
- Experience with NFPA 72 and NFPA 25 fire alarm systems and central station systems testing and maintenance.
- Experience Edwards EST3, Simplex, JCI, FCI, Notifier system, DACT dialers, and DACR central station receivers.
- Evidence of a EST3 Series Certification
- Demonstrated knowledge of Suppression systems.
- Evidence of an effective communication skills
Wear personal protective equipment (e.g. safety glasses, face shield, negative pressure respirator, gloves). Required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work. Travel throughout campus. Work in extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, confined spaces (e.g. tunnels, man holes, vaults), intense noise, dirty environment, air contamination and hazardous materials. Frequent lifting, bending, pushing, pulling and carrying heavy objects up to 75 pounds. Climb stairs and work from ladders up to 30 feet using power tools for maintenance, repair, and installations. Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities, which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts. Ability to clearly communicate to perform essential functions. Drive University vehicle.
