VSC Fire & Security, a leading fire protection and life safety system contractor, is seeking qualified candidates for a Fire Sprinkler Designer for our Tampa district office.
POSITION DESCRIPTION
Responsible for the layout of sprinkler system drawings utilizing available information from the contract's defined scope of the project, architectural drawings, job specifications, site surveys, and relevant NFPA, IBC, UFC and local building codes. Responsible for all aspects of the design layout, field checking, fabrication listing, material equipment submittals, hydraulic calculations, applicable installation requirements, and close out procedures. Deliver quality service to the customer while maintaining company's obligations as defined by the contract and/or approved change orders. Work closely with Estimating/Sales, Field Supervisors, and Technicians during installation and close out process. Interact and communicate in a professional and positive manner with customers, county officials, water purveyors, general contractor or project manager throughout design and installation process.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
- Position requires competence with Microsoft Office with proficiency in Windows based AutoCAD and SprinkCAD design software and hydraulic calculation methodology.
- Must have demonstrated knowledge and experience with NFPA, IBC, UFC, Fire Marshals and other regulatory standards and local codes.
- Sprinkler design training or field installation experience a plus.
- Experience in fire protection industry with knowledge of manufacturer's product lines and equipment preferred.
- Minimum certification at NICET Level II (or passed exam elements) required, NICET Level III preferred.
- Mechanical aptitude and strong spatial orientation skills are essential.
- Ability to resolve problems or conflicts through use of negotiation/problem solving skills.
- Ability to meet deadlines as defined by the project schedule.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Work in office environment utilizing standard office equipment and electronic software on computer desktop.
- May operate plotting, copying and other specialized office equipment to handle prints and other construction documents.
- Position requires visual acuity for PC and record keeping activities; manual dexterity for drafting or mouse use on AutoCAD; and auditory acuity for telephone use.
- Occasional use of ladders during site surveys.
- Ability to traverse rough construction site terrain and hard-hat areas.
- Standard business hours plus possible overtime and out of town assignments may be required. Travel may include site visits, meetings with officials, and training seminars.
- NICET II certification (or passed exam elements) required; NICET III certification preferred (or within two years of employment.)
- Valid driver's license and good driving record required for use of company vehicle.
